Hi, I’m Sarah.
Founder of Hartma Coffee, coffee enthusiast, and the woman behind the business.
The photo next to this was taken during a trip to Colombia, where I visited a coffee farm and got to experience part of the coffee-making process firsthand. At the time, I was simply there because I loved coffee—I had no idea that a few years later, I would be building a coffee business of my own.
My journey into coffee started with curiosity and quickly became something much bigger. The more I learned about where coffee comes from—especially the people, places, and work behind exceptional Kenyan coffee—the more I wanted to be part of it.
So I built Hartma Coffee.
As a woman-owned business, Hartma is something deeply personal to me. I’m involved in the details, from learning about origins and tasting coffees to building relationships and introducing coffees I genuinely believe in to roasters and coffee businesses here in the U.S.
I’m still the kind of person who gets way too excited about discovering a great coffee, talking about tasting notes, or learning something new about the industry—and I hope that never changes.
Hartma started with a love for coffee, but it’s growing into something bigger: a business built around curiosity, quality, good relationships, and really good coffee.
And yes, I drink a lot of coffee along the way.
My Approach
Good coffee gets your attention. Good relationships keep it moving.
For me, great coffee starts long before it reaches the cup. My approach is simple: understand the origin, pay attention to quality, and build relationships that can grow over time.
QUALITY FIRST
Every coffee starts with the cup. I look for coffees with distinctive character, clarity, and a profile worth sharing—then focus on preserving that quality from origin to customer.
Build Relationships
Coffee is a relationship business. My goal is not simply to sell a lot, but to build lasting connections with producers, partners, roasters, and cafés through communication, consistency, and trust.
KNOW THE ORIGIN
Origin matters. I care about understanding where a coffee comes from, how it was grown and processed, and the varieties and conditions that shape what you eventually taste in the cup.
